Our Story

How It All Started

A Dumpsite Becomes a Dream

The Go Green Go Clean project in Eldorado Park Extension 8 occupies a servitude owned by Joburg City Property, stretching from Turf Avenue through Edward Baatjies, Tosman Friesly, Epsom, Albert Dickenson and Dartmoor avenues. This strip was previously a dumpsite — with streaming sewage and overgrown grass that sheltered criminals.

In 2013, Rashid Juma — a former magician turned green activist — gathered unemployed volunteers and cleaned it up. After removing the grass and planting lawn and flowers, crime in the area dropped significantly.

In 2019, after a short illness, Rashid returned with renewed vigour and a vision for an ECO Tourism Walkway, outdoor art gallery, and environmental education space.

In 2021, Barloworld Empowerment Foundation provided critical grant funding, enabling stipends for volunteers who had worked without pay for over seven years.

In March 2024, in partnership with Heineken and Greenpop, GGGC launched the Heineken Green Zone and the Khoi Heritage Site — celebrating the Khoi and San first nation through vibrant murals and rock art.

2013

The Cleanup Begins

Rashid Juma and volunteers clear a dangerous dumpsite. Crime in the area drops almost immediately.

2013–2018

Community Stewardship

Volunteers maintain the space while Rashid travels. The area stays clean but lacks a forward vision.

2019

A New Vision

Rashid returns with a plan for an ECO Tourism Walkway, outdoor art gallery, and education hub.

2021

Barloworld Grant

Fundi Communications connects GGGC with Barloworld. Volunteers receive stipends for the first time.

Mar 2024

Heineken Green Zone

The Khoi Heritage Site launches — murals and rock art celebrating the Khoi and San first nation.

Jun 2025

First Organic Market

Go Green Go Clean with grant funding from Barloworld Empowerment Foundation partners with Ubuntu-CDU to create Klipspruit West's first Urban Farm producing organic vegetables.
